HE 1917 Admiralty flying boat was one of several WWI designs by the talented Harris Booth and it became the best-known and most successful of them. Colin presents the wartime history of the type as well as its post-war use in several nations with a rare collection of over 45 archive photos that embrace not only the original AD, but also the reconfigured Channel boats that followed. Both are fully covered in the narrative and across a dozen pages of detailed 1:72 and 1: 48 scale drawings by Marty Digmayer, plus there are nine exotic new colour profiles by Ronny Bar. With a stirring Paul Monteagle cover painting, our 159th DATAFILE is a unique addition to our long-running series.

THE nimble Halberstadt Cl.II two-seaters took part in many heavy battles during the closing months of WWI,supporting German infantry in the big offensives of March 1918.John Alcorn revisits this classic with his own highly-detailed ,brand new ,scale drawings that, aside from the regular 1:48 and 1:72 GAs,also include detailed, dimensioned structural fuselage schematics in 1:32. The author's narrative outlines the type's important combat role, and with a comprehensive and fresh photo archive co-contributed by Greg Van Wyngarden and other specialists, coupled with Ronny Bar's superb
cover profiles, colour close-ups of the sole surviving Cl.II in Poland, plus pages of annotated sketches from the 1918 British capture reports, provides modellers and enthusists with a fabulous reference source!

BUILDING THE WINGNUT WINGS FOKKER D.VII

LIBERALLY illustrated with over 270 photos, this unique 64 page modeller's guide provides extensive build logs of all four WNW kits-both early and late Fokker versions, as well as the OAW and Albatros licence-built D.VIIs. Each model is treated to detailed step-by-step coverage with larger, clearer colour images, all supported by contemporary photos and sketches to illustrate cockpits, armament, engines and myriad other aspects for super-detail addicts. Author Ray Rimell reveals how he modified all four kits both structurally ,and in terms of finish,to create highly personal treatments of each:photos and colour profiles adding extra provenance to markings' changes for both Fokker-built examples. The D.VIIF chapter even includes additional photos and detailed drawings of the BMW IIIa engine, including 1918 handbook illustrations. There are stacks of super-detailing and painting tips throughout,as well as exhaustive coverage of 'lozenge' decal application employing the kits' own sheets as well as commercially-available versions from Aviattic. Packed with exclusive material, the Special includes over 20 new Ronny Bar profiles, most with supporting archive photos, along with three galleries of rare archive images and over 50 colour close-ups of Mike Carlson's superb airworthy reproduction-these taken especially for this book.In addition to a bibliography and comprehensive listings of after-market 1:32 scale D.VII accessories and decals, we also have an exclusive interview with Richard Alexander and Jason McAdam of Wingnut Wings who candidly discuss the research and development required to bring their D.VII kits to fruition-it makes for fascinating reading!
Whilst the modelling chapters deal with the WNW kits, this big Special will prove equally invaluable to D.VII modellers working in scales from 1:144 right up to 1:2, for 50% of the content is pure documentation providing a fresh in-depth resource for this most famous and popular WWI German fighter.

161.CAUDRON R.11

Image

AUTHOR Colin A Owers turns his attention to the large twin-motored Caudron R.11 escort fighter that served with such distinction in the closing months of WWI. With its torpedo-like fuselage housing pilot and a pair of gunners' stations ,the lanky Caudron provided close escort/protection to French day bombers as they made their depredations over German territory. This truly unique DATAFILE covers the R.11 in unprecented depth with over 60 rare photos, contemporary sketches, plus eight pages of detailed 1:48 and 1:72 scale general arrangement drawings by Marty Digmayer that profile this classic aeroplane as never before. Add to this nine stunning new colour profiles by Ronny Bar plus Roberto Zanella's brilliant cover painting and you have a combination of talent that marks out DATAFILE 161 as a landmark in this long-running series.
