How can I edit the command line ?
Right click on the shortcut to EECH and select 'properties'. Just add the command-line options to the 'target' box. Please note that if you have any spaces in the path to the cohokum.exe, you will have to wrap the entire line (including the command-line parameters) into double quotes (")
Why doesn't TrackIR work?
You need to specify -mouselook:1 on the commandline for trackir to work. The reason is that the mouslook code and native TrackIR support is in the same unit, so this configuration options controls both functions.
I specified -mouselook:1 in the commandline and now I can´t pan with the keyboard/joystick POV any more
That´s a feature, not a bug. Keyboard/POV panning and mouselook/TrackIR are mutually exclusive. Note that you can still pan using the keyboard/POV while in outside view.
I am flying with a Field of View of 80 degrees and sometimes I suddenly explode !
Using higher FOVs sadly means different LOD (level of detail) models.. some object don´t even have lower-poly models, which means that they dissappear completely, so it is possible to fly into an 'invisible' object.
I want to host a public game using the multiplayer masterserver, how do I do this?
Just use a version greater than 1.6.0W1, go into the options menu and select TCP/IP in the networking section. Then start a campaign or skirmish as usual. The other players will see your server appear on the list at http://hox.dhs.org/eech
I want to have some privacy, how do I stop my server from appearing on the masterserver's list?
There are several ways to do this:
Set networking to none
change the masterserver addresses in your .ini file to a random name.
Pull the plug to the internet![]()
I installed and patched EECH but can not use avionics (FLIR,TADS,HIDSS etc) any more
Be sure to have 'realistic avionics' activated
Installing EECH
Installing EECH
The cohokum.exe executables that you can get from this site (either by downloading or by compiling the source code) do not work on their own. They need to be "embedded" into an existing EECH installation. This page describes how to do this. If you're interested in compiling a version from the source code you should look at the GettingStartedIntro.
As you may already know, you can install Comanche Hokum over an existing installation of Apache Havoc. This will give you two more choppers and three more theaters to play with. If you have Apache Havoc and you want to do this, start at step 1. Otherwise start at step 4.
Install Apache Havoc from the CD.
Patch Apache Havoc to version 1.1E. The patch can be found on the Comanche Hokum CD.
Run Apache Havoc at least once. This will decompress some necessary files from the CD and put them on the hard disk. Without this step Comanche Hokum will not recognize that Apache Havoc is installed.
Install Comanche Hokum from the CD. Choose the same install path as you did for Apache Havoc.
Patch Comanche Hokum to version 1.4.1C. This patch can be found at http://www.razorworks.com/enemyengaged/index.html. Do not use any of the higher-numbered patches; those are executable-only patches that do not contain the necessary data files. Besides, the executable that they install will only be replaced by the executable you got from this site, so it's a waste of time anyway.
Rename the cohokum.exe in the cohokum directory (the default location is C:\Razorworks\cohokum\cohokum.exe) to something else, like cohokum-bak.exe. This way you can always go back to the original version if the new one doesn't work out.
Now you can put your new cohokum.exe in the directory where you just renamed the old one.
That should be it. You should now be able to play Enemy Engaged: Comanche vs. Hokum using the new executable.
Enjoy!
How to setup the HOTAS Cougar for use with EECH
The new version of EECH has a number of features that are very useful when using the Cougar. This document is intended to help you get these features working properly.
Setting up the cougar axes
The Cougar has 10 analogue axis, 7 on the stick and throttle and two more on the pedals. Unfortunately, DirectX 7 only supports joysticks with up 8 axis and therefore you have to choose which ones are visible to Windows. The default Cougar configuration is that the two axis on the microstick are not visible and we have to change this, becasue we want to use these two axes for controlling the FLIR. The solution is to take the two toebreak-axes from the pedals and assigns these axes to the microstick instead. Here is how you do this:
Start HOTAS Cougar Control Panel
Exchange the microstick and the toebreak axes by clicking on column 7 for microstick X and column 8 for microstick Y.
Make sure the checkbox "apply enable/disable Windows axes states" is selected and click "apply".
Start "Foxy's DirectX HOTAS Cougar Analyser" and make sure that the microstick gives response from the RY and SL1 axes.
Configuring the cougar profile
There's isn't much configuration to do. The only think you need to make sure is that you remove any commands that affect the microstick axes. It is posisble that your old profile sends keyboard commands when moving the microstick. If these command also try to move the FLIR then you can get some problems.
Configuring EECH
The next step is to setup EECH to use these axes. This can be done either by editing the config file or specifying commands on the command line. This document describes using the config file.
Assuming that the Cougar is the first joystick available, you first need to specify that you want to use it for controlling the FLIR. Set the following command in the config file:
eopann=0
Next, we specify the two axes we want to use:
eopanh=8
eopanv=5
We also want to be able to use one of the rotary knobs to zoom the FLIR. Which one you want to use is a matter of taste, but let's assume you want to use the "range" knob. First add the joystick index to the config file, followed by the axis you want to use for this purpose:
eozoomn=0
eozoomax=7
Now start EECH and everything should work properly.
Mouselook and TrackIR support
You can now control you view using the mouse or by using TrackIR. The TrackIR support uses enhanced mode which means that you will not have to bother about centering you view all the time. You enable these features with the command line option -mouselook:1. If you specified this option then a check will be made for a TrackIR upon startup, and if it is found it will be used to control the view. Otherwise the mouse can be used.
You can set the speed of the mouselook by adding -mousespeed:xx where xx should be a value greater than 0. If this option is not used, mousespeed defaults to 15. Pressing the left mouse button will recenter the view to forward.
User-configurable Field of View
Using the command line switches -minfov:xx and -maxfov:xx the user can specify different field-of-view values, which can be activated by the '7','8' and '9' keys. 7 switches min FOV, 8 switches to (fixed) standard FOV, 9 switches to wide FOV. Please note that higher FOVs currently mean lower LODs.
Mappable joystick axes
You can now choose exactly which joystick and which axis on that joystick that should be used for cyclic, collective and throttle. The following command line options controls this:
-cyclic_joystick_index:0
-cyclic_joystick_x_axis:1
-cyclic_joystick_y_axis:2
-collective_joystick_index:0
-collective_joystick_axis:4
-rudder_joystick_index:0
-rudder_joystick_axis:6
New FLIR panning
You can now use joystick axis to pan the FLIR display. You specify which axis to use for this using the following commandline options: -pan_joystick_index:0 -pan_joystick_horizontal_axis:5 -pan_joystick_vertical_axis:6. This means that you want to use axis 5 and 6 on the first available joystick to control the panning.
The old FLIR code only allowed three levels of zoom. This code has been updated to support any zoom levels. When using the keyboard, you still use the same keys to zoom, but you now have 5 levels instead. If you have an extra joystick axis available you can map one of them to the zoom and using for zooming. You specify the zoom axis to use using the command line options -zoom_joystick_index:0 -zoom_joystick_axis:8. This says that you want to use axis 8 on the first available joystick for zooming.
DirectX joystick axis names and their numbers
When specifying a number for a joystick axis, the following DirectX axis names are used:
1
X-axis
2
Y-axis
3
Z-axis
4
rx-axis
5
ry-axis
6
rz-axis
7
slider 1
8
slider 2
Ground stabilised FLIR
The Comanche now supports ground stabilisation for the FLIR. You toggle this feature using Control-S.
Infantry does not show up on ground radar anymore
Infantry can never be seen on the ground radar now. This behaviour is the default. If you want to restore the old behaviour, specify -invisible_infantry:0 on the command line.
Wideview cockpit
Activating "wideview" when you are in the cockpit retreats the head of the pilot so that you will view more of the dashboard. You can still look around although the downward look in the cockpit is restricted somewhat. Also the keys F1 and F2 are still functional. The exact position can be edited and the x,y,z coordinates are stored in a small text file in your cohokum directory, called "widemod.cfg". If this file doesn't exist it is created with default values.
Notes
a flight always starts in normal view.
the pilot is not rendered when you activate wideview because he would be blocking the view.
this mod works in conjunction with the mouselook mod (see above) with some funny effects...
the wideview does not work for the 640x480 resolutions of the Apache and Havoc because these modes use the old way of rendering.
for pictures go to http://home.planet.nl/~jette073
Manual
Press "\" (slash) to toggle between wideview and normal view. The cockpit always starts in normal view. Be aware that some users will have to press '#' or some other key on the right of the keyboard because the layout for '\' tends to change acoording to the keyboard brand.
Press "Ctrl-\" to start the adjustment of the viewpoint
Use numpad keys 4 and 6 to change the Z-axis (viewers distance, retreating the pilots head)
Use numpad keys 2 and 8 to change the Y-axis (viewers height above the ground)
Use numpad keys 1 and 3 to change the X-axis (viewers position left/right)
Use numpad key 0 to reset the viewpoint to the default values
Press "Alt-\" to save the changes in the file widemod.cfg in the cohokum dirctory.
Farp bug
The so called "FARP bug" is a bug in EECH that creates long lines of choppers waiting to allocated a landing pad at a farp or airport. The reason is that choppers that are landing do not stop: they keep making small jumps (called bunny hopping by some) and continue be designated as 'landing'. Therefore they are not freed for other tasks, the landing pad stays occupied etc etc. Based on work by DeStRo's Weapon and Units Tweaker the code has been changed to resolve that bug. If you still encounter it please send a message to one of the forums and attach the the skirmish or campaign in which it occurs. Behaviour that is not a FARP bug:
Choppers stuck at an electricity line (some other bug)
Choppers having to wait because they were transferred to a farp that has no landing pads free (possibly because some unit returned and landed before them, instead of being shot like they were supposed to ;-) ). This may not be a bug, just a free flowing game.
WUT mod
WUT = Weapons and Units Tweaker by DeStRo (Daniel Blazevic) http://www.aplus.ba/dblazev/wut/, a program to tweak loadout and behaviour of all 'entities' in the game (from bullets to comanches). It changes the official coholum.exe directly, but it cannot be used on the executable compiled from the source code (version 1.6.0 and higher). However, with the WUT program you can save all your tweaks in a text file. This text file can be added as a commandline parameter and the contents are read and parsed, and the changes are made. The most obvious change is that the cruise speed of the choppers has increased to over a 150 km/h. The commandline syntax is:
cohokum -wut:filename
where file name is the name of the WUT text file. These WUT text files are included in the Weapon and Units Tweaker download (see link above). You will have to rename them to a conventional DOS name first: e.g. "1.5.1 d.txt" to "151_d.txt". To create a WUT text file: start WUT, select "file->profile->load", select one of the wut files, make changes if you want, select "file->profile->save as" and type a name with the extention "txt" and save. This file can now be used directly in the commandline of the new cohokum. Note that hosting multiplayer internet games with WUT is not recommended, as the other clients most probably don't have the same modified values as you. Please use only for singleplayer OR LAN-play where the WUT file can be copied to all clients.
Notes
The last category in the WUT text file "Weapon Config Types" is ignored because there is not enough information in the file to know where the tweaks should be done. For the 151d version this means that the A10 Thunderbolt, the SU25 Frogfoot, the AV8B Harrier and the YAK141 Freestyle retain there original values for the time being
if you do not use this commandline switch you fly the original version 1.4.7x in terms of 'entity' behaviour and configuration
this mod probably needs more testing, some changes are very subtle and it is hard to see if the mod functions correctly. All comments are welcome
the mod version is currently 1.2 (26/3/3)
Show framerate
The framerate is displayed in the top left corner and updates about once a second. The average of 30 readings is shown for stability. Activate with commandline option /framerate:1. Write the values to a file called framerate.txt with commandline /framerate:2. (not included in version 1.6.0X)
Downwash effect
Choppers flying at low altitutes kick up clouds of dust and sand. This graphical effect is turned on by default and can be switched off using the command line argument -no_downwash.
eech.ini
There are over 70 commandline parameters for cohokum.exe so it is obvious to have an eech.ini file. For cohokum versions after version 1.6.0W7 the ini file is simply created automatically when it is not found in the cohokum directory. So you start up cohokum to create it, then quit and change the file to your liking, and restart cohokum. The file eech.ini is read before the commandline options, these still work and override the values in the file.
For version 1.6.0W7 and older the eech.ini file has to be created by the user with the commandline option "ini":"cohokum /ini" or "cohokum -ini". Don't forget to remove the /ini option once the file is generated (the second time you start up) or the file will be reset to default values.
Multiplayer masterserver
At http://hoxdna.org/eech there is a masterserver for EECH, listing all running games along with total players and IP addresses. EECH versions newer than 1.6.0W1 report to the masterserver if you play a game with Networking set to TCP/IP in the options menu. To join a game, just copy&paste an active IP from the serverlist into GSS (Ground Support System) or EECH itself. (Please note that the old url "http://hox.dhs.org/eech" no longer works!)
Ingame server browser
Until now, gray entries in the campaign menu were used to designate local maps, multiplayer games were shown in green. EECH will now display all active internet game servers in both the campaign and skirmish menu. These servers will be displayed in red. Right now, joining them might feel a little awkward: By clicking on one of the internet games you don't actually join them right away, but the game's IP address will be automatically written into the multiplayer options. After a few seconds a new (green) entry should appear, which you can now join as usual. Selecting a different red entry will result in a new green entry to appear. In short: The server browser automates the task of cut&pasting a game's ip address into the options menu. Hopefully we will be able to directly join a game by clicking on a red entry in the future, but right now that doesn't work.
High resolution MFD's
If you specify the command line option -high_res_mfd:1 the resolution of the Comanche and Hokum MFD's will be doubled. Remember that there is a small framerate hit when activating this feature.
CBAR for all maps
The CBAR (City Block Approximation Range) value now works for all maps, i.e. not just Apache Havoc maps. Increasing this value causes villages, cities and ports to be much more detailed. If you have a good system (2GHz CPU, GeForce4), set this to 5000 and try flying over Damaskus for the most amazing city ride you've ever experienced.
Tactical Situation Display mod
This mod adds a relief map background to the TSD of the Comanche, Hokum and Apache (the Havoc is not included yet):
The map is shown as elevation colours in brownish tints: dark brown/red is high, light yellow is low, water is blue. The maximum of the map is used to scale the colours.
The Apache now has the same TSD as the Comanche.
The friendlies and enemies are shown in red and blue colours (including detection circles of SAMs etc.).
The mod works together with the High Resolution MFD (see above).
Shaded relief is in the making.
Pressing Ctrl-D (as in Declutter) cycles through the options: old TSD screen, the terrain map with contours, the terrain map without contours. Alt-D cycles through a few colour palettes.

CIS-160w14
Description: New eech-exe.
Bugs in w13 fixed. MP part of the code (kind of) saves the host at the cost of clients with slow connections getting kicked out. You can still encounter the "failure to enumerate any groups"-error, then the host wil have to be rebooted.
There's still problems with the MP-capability, but it boils down to the buggy Directplay7-MP-code and that's a major task to change.
An optional new WUT-editor is implemented, those of you who want to customise your own game, jump to Gotcha's site http://home.planet.nl/~jette073/gotcha/
and d/l the new WUT-editor.
Make sure that any potential MP-clients have the same WUT-profile as you have (the old wut-profiles is still working).
For further info, look in the readme.html included.
Another advise: If you aren't up_to_date, d/l the super-patch before implementing this version. (I tried to create a new super-patch, but failed :( ) The Super-patch includes all new maps, campaings and skirmishes up to march 2nd 2004. Winter-camo and Kuwait-camo is needed for some of the new maps, can be d/l-ed here in the DevZone
