On aurait cru que toute la Luftwaffe était de sortie !
Le 'Top-scorer' de la journée est le Plt Off Patrick Alliot qui s'adjuge pas moins de 4 Fw190 mais est finalement abattu, à court de munitions par un chasseur de la JG2. Le Plt Off Paul Gromineau qui a tenté de la secourir s'est adjugé un des Fw190 mais s'est mis en vrille dans une manoeuvre trop brutale et s'est écrasé. Les Typhoons du 56sqn ont ensuite couvert le retrait des survivants qui se sont posé les casiers de munitions vides.
A NOTER: Le squadron 56 a commencé sa conversion sur Tempest car le Fg Off Marcel Freeslot a conduit ses Typhoons aux commandes d'un des tout nouveaux et très puissants Tempests !
Malgré le nombre remarquable de victoires en ce 2 juillet 1944, la situation est grave : le nombre de pilotes perdus ou hors de combat à l"Alsace" devient critique et l'escadrille devra être retirée du front si nous ne parvenons pas à stopper l'hémorragie rapidement
